The majority of our mission work is done through personal, one-on-one relationships. Most new believers will be able to point to a close friend, family member, or acquaintance who was personally influential in their journey to Christianity. By God’s grace, our missionaries have seen hundreds of their friends come to know Christ through this relational approach.
Occasionally, though, our missionaries are given opportunities to share their stories on more public platforms. There can be real benefits in using platforms to reach wider audiences, meet new people, and make Christ known.
Missionary Jake Wassermann (Manila, Philippines) shared this story about his unique opportunity: “Last month, I met a relative of one of the Wisconsin Lutheran High School students while they were here on their mission trip. This relative hosts a weekly radio ministry show. She asked me to be a guest on her show to talk about Friends Network and my experiences here in the Philippines. She told me that this show reaches an audience of about 12-14 million Filipinos each week and additionally has viewers from all around the world, including Australia, America, and Europe! I didn’t fully know everything we were going to cover until I actually got to the studio, but it was so fun to get to talk about ministry, culture, and the Bible. What an awesome platform this was to talk about Jesus! I never would’ve imagined having an opportunity like this, but I’m so thankful it happened. It sounds like there may be chances to be on it again in the future!”
